On September 29, 2016, the first meeting of the Legislative Assembly of the Omsk Region of the sixth convocation took place. The powers of the elected deputies were recognized, the composition of the commissions and the secretariat of the regional parliament was approved. 7 committees have also been formed. Vladimir Varnavsky was elected Chairman of the Legislative Assembly. In addition, the deputies elected from among themselves a member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation from the Legislative Assembly of the Omsk Region.

By order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin dated July 21, 2016 No. 217-rp, the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Omsk Region Vladimir Varnavsky was included in the delegation of the Russian Federation to participate in the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (CLRVE) in 2016-2020.

On June 28, 2016, public hearings were held on the report on the execution of the regional budget for 2015. The event took place in the conference hall of the Government of the Omsk Region with the participation of deputies of the regional parliament, representatives of the regional government, local governments, territorial government bodies of the Russian Federation, political parties and public organizations.

On June 16, 2016, the Legislative Assembly adopted the Resolution “On calling elections of deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Omsk Region,” according to which elections of deputies are scheduled for September 18, 2016. In addition, the regional parliament approved a draft agreement between the Government of the Omsk Region of the Russian Federation and the Administration of the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Rakhmed provinces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

On May 19, the Legislative Assembly adopted the Laws of the Omsk Region “On Amendments to the Code of the Omsk Region on Social Protection of Certain Categories of Citizens”, “On Amendments to Certain Laws of the Omsk Region”, aimed at expanding social protection measures for certain categories of citizens.

On April 29, 2016, a meeting of the Council of Legislators of the Russian Federation at the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation was held in St. Petersburg, dedicated to the 110th anniversary of Russian parliamentarism. Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Omsk Region Vladimir Varnavsky took part in its work. In addition, he made a presentation on the experience and prospects for the development of international cooperation in the Omsk region at a meeting of the Commission of the Council of Legislators of the Russian Federation on problems of international cooperation.

On April 27, our country celebrates the Day of Russian Parliamentarism. The Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Omsk Region, Vladimir Varnavsky, and the deputies received congratulations from the speakers of the upper and lower houses of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko and Sergei Naryshkin, the plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District, Nikolai Rogozhkin, and heads of government bodies of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Vladimir Varnavsky and the Governor of the Omsk Region Viktor Nazarov also congratulated the residents of the Omsk Region on this memorable day.

On April 21, the regional parliament adopted a law in the Omsk region providing a measure of social support for the payment of a contribution for major repairs. Benefits will be provided to citizens over 70 and 80 years of age. A regional law was also adopted establishing a new medal for the Omsk region - “Friendship of Peoples”, and other laws.
